Merry Christmas!

One of the great benefits of a Westminster education during the holiday season is the gift of a Biblical eschatology. Many who experience the beauty and sounds of our seasonal celebrations are, at the same time, painfully and personally aware that the curse of sin and suffering are still to be found. We give them a gift when we speak of and embrace the reality that the son of David has come and begun to reign, and we do not yet see all things as under his feet. This already-not-yet reality engenders authentic hope. It enables us to rejoice that Jesus has saved us from our sins and yet we face remaining sin and suffering for what it really is – remnants of the flesh overshadowed by the finished work of the cross. We are enabled to do authentic ministry, leading people to real rejoicing without denying that our joy must yet be expressed, by faith, amid the thorns that still infest the ground.

May the upcoming Christmas season deepen your faith in our Savior who is the “yes” to all of God’s promises, may it renew your hope in the gracious rule of King David’s greater son, and may you have grace to continue giving the gift of the gospel to the world into which Christ has sent you.

Partnering with you for kingdom purposes,

Book of the Month

This is Love

Westminster alumnus and OPC minister, Rev. Neil Tolsma (M.Div. '65) has recently published a new book on God's love.

Listen to an interview with Rev. Tolsma about his book on Reformed Forum.

Publisher's Description: Many people search all their lives for true love. But before we can find that real, transforming love we all long for and were created by God to need, we must first understand what true love is.

This Is Love directs us to the best authority on the topic, through the example of God himself. Each chapter highlights a significant aspect of God's love as demonstrated in a different period of biblical history and ends with study questions to help us to further our understanding. After learning the character of divine love, we then see how God's love is revealed in our own lives - especially by the love we show to others.
