New Course Descriptions:
OT 404/704 - The Theory and Praxis of Biblical Hebrew Syntax
This seminar approaches the subject of Hebrew Syntax from the perspective of modern linguistics, applying these analytical methods to the Hebrew Bible text from scratch. A full third of the course will focus on contemporary syntax theory. The rest of the course will be applying that theory in investigating the adequacy of hte new Westminster Hebrew Syntax database. The student will be provided with softward and datat to be used in his or her study.
OT 404 - Prerequisite of OT 013 or equivalent.
OT 613/913 - The Book of Proverbs
A largely inductive and exegetical orientation to the biblical book of Proverbs, including its purpose(s), organization, provenance, and interpretation, emphasizing the translation, interpretation, and "use" of the individual wisdom sayings found in Proverbs 10:1-30:9. Students who have studied the basic grammar and syntax of Biblical Hebrew should be able to benefit from this course. Time in class will be devoted to discussing the assigned readings and the biblical text.
OT 613 - prerequisite of OT 013 or equivalent and NT 123.
ST 644/944 - Philosophical Theology of Thomas Aquinas
Purpse: To begin to understand some of the baisc elements of Thomas' philosophical theology, to evaluate Thomas' philosophical theological view of knowledge and cognition, to critically assess Thomas in light of historic, Reformed orthodoxy, and to appreciate those elements in Thomas' philosophical theology that have thier basis in Scripture. Topics covered will include primarily the doctrine of God, but will also include Thomas' view of knowledge, the metaphysics of the Incarnation, and the doctrine of providence and suffering.
