Iglesia Commindad Cristiana Esperanza (“Esperanza”)
1302 N. Graham
Memphis, TN 38122
Esperanza is a church plant supported by Second Presbyterian Church, an Evangelical Presbyterian Church located in Memphis, Tennessee. The church was birthed from relationships that developed through Second’s involvement with a public elementary school located in a working class neighborhood with a significant concentration of Hispanics, many of whom do not speak English and struggle to earn a livelihood. In 2007 Su Casa Family Ministries was launched to serve Hispanic children and their families in this neighborhood. Su Casa’s primary outreach efforts have been through sponsoring ESL classes for adults and several children ministries. The strategy for serving this neighborhood had always contemplated a church plant which would be distinctly Gospel-based and outwardly focused on assisting families with practical life needs. A pastor was called in 2009 and the first worship service began in February 2010. Weekly worship services are held in a well maintained church building immediately adjacent to a large neighborhood school. The services are currently principally in Spanish to accommodate most of the regular adult worshippers. Programs for children are in English. The first pastor resigned in the spring of 2012. A pastor search team has been formed and is composed of members of Second and some of the Hispanic adults who have emerged as leaders of the congregation.
We request that anyone who is interested or knows of someone who may be interested in serving as pastor of the church contact Eddie Foster at 901-454-0034.
