I was looking for a counseling program that would bleed more Christ than science — at Westminster I found it. Coming from a science background and having worked in the psychiatric setting many years, I already knew what science offered... I wanted more.

Westminster’s Master of Arts in Religion program (MAR) is a rigorous and academically focused course of study toward becoming a trained specialist in the Bible. It combines deep, reformed, exegetical-theological studies with rich historical theology as preparation to serve Christ and his global church. Graduates:
- Develop competency in Greek and Hebrew, allowing them to read and exegete the original biblical text with accuracy, rather than rely entirely on secondary resources.
- Can clearly trace the continuity of redemptive history throughout the entirety of Scripture.
- Engage with the story of the church throughout history, understanding the impact of history’s greatest thinkers and theologians.
- Possess a distinct covenantal apologetic that brings every thought captive to Christ who is the source of all truth and life.

In an environment where demanding circumstances quickly become the norm, my WTS education has been an anchor. I’m especially grateful for the grounding I received in the doctrine of man — understanding who God created us to be and what He created us for. These truths frequently shape how I support my fellow soldiers, helping them build real, lasting resiliency rooted in biblical identity and purpose.

Master of Arts in Counseling
Bring Gospel Hope to Those Who Serve Through Flexible, Faith-Grounded Training
For those who have served with strength, sacrifice, and a deep sense of purpose, there is a deep understanding of how peers rely on one another in life’s most challenging moments. Whether you are active duty or a veteran, Westminster’s Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC) is designed for those with real-world experience and a heart to deliver Gospel hope to every circumstance.

Coming directly off of active duty and being thrust into an environment where I wasn’t even used to being a civilian again, it was a healing for me. I was able to use that as I ministered to other young folks and it helped the Marine unit that I was at while I was in school—learning how to open up the text to help a soul heal.

Westminster’s Master of Arts in Theological Studies (MATS) is a fully online degree ideal for active duty service members, veterans, and career military professionals who want trustworthy theological education that integrates with their calling, but cannot commit large amounts of time to study.
Graduates:
- Build a strong foundation in Scripture and Reformed theology.
- Learn to apply biblical truth to leadership, ethics, decision-making, and service.
- Prepare for roles in chaplaincy, ministry, education, or post-military careers.
- Study from anywhere in the world with a flexible, fully online format.
- Complete coursework on your timeline—ideal for deployments, relocations, and active duty commitments.
Use your time in service—or your next chapter after it—to deepen your knowledge of God’s Word.

I believe that the discipline of military life helped me to be disciplined in my approach to online learning. My military experience was spent primarily in healthcare. While the majority of that was focused on care of the physical bodies of men women and children, theology addresses the spiritual needs of the body of Christ. Also, it is difficult to care for the body and ignore the soul, so theological learning was most logical for me.
