The Westminster community mourns the loss of Dr. George C. Fuller, former president of Westminster Theological Seminary. George Fuller passed away on May 5, 2021. He is survived by his wife, Jane Fuller. George Fuller served as president from 1984 to 1991 and was Professor of Pastoral Theology Emeritus. He retired from his last full-time ministry position in 1999, but continued his work with the Presbyterian Church in America as Director of the PCA Christian Ed’s Seniors Program and as a member of the Christian Education and Publications Permanent Committee. 

During his time at Westminster, Dr. Fuller cast a vision for the seminary's reach to train pastors and leaders worldwide, recognizing the diverse student body training at Westminster. He began the seminary's tradition of displaying flags in Van Til Hall that honored the different countries students represented. The flags Dr. Fuller set up can still be viewed today.  In many ways, Westminster's current Far Greater campaign that seeks to make seminary training available worldwide and train missionaries is rooted in Dr. Fuller's heart for the nations. In addition to his missional vision, Dr. Fuller utilized his business education and background to steer the seminary towards greater financial stability and responsibility.

Dr. Fuller’s legacy also extends beyond Westminster’s halls. In 1988, he spent nine months preaching and ministering to a group of Christians with connections in the Mainline area of Philadelphia. This group would eventually establish Proclamation Presbyterian Church and call Dr. Peter Lillback as its first senior pastor. 

We thank God for the gift of Dr. George Fuller who left a great legacy and impact at Westminster Theological Seminary.
